Mary Long-Irwin

  Mary is currently the Executive Director of Northern Ontario Enterprise Gateway, an organization that matches Entrepreneurs with Investor. She works with Entrepreneurs to ensure that they receive the funding required as well as the mentors/advisors they need to become successful. Prior to this Mary was the President/CEO of The Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. She worked closely with over 1100 member businesses and three levels of government to ensure the growth of business and economic development opportunities throughout Northwestern Ontario. She worked closely with both Queens Park and Ottawa, as an advocate for Northern Ontario, to ensure the voice of the North was heard and addressed. She met regularly with various Ministers to implement solutions for growth. She was also the CEO for Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce.

Mary began her career as self-employed businesswomen here in Thunder Bay. She owned and operated Microwave World during the 1980's. In 1988 Mary accepted a position with Confederation College, Northwest Enterprise Center as a Small Business Advisor and instructor. In 1990 Mary moved to Terrace Bay, Ontario and accepted a position as the General Manager, Lender, and Business Consultant to over 500 businesses, for Superior North Community Corporation (a FedNor Community Development Initiative) for 10 years.

Mary was born, raised, and educated in Thunder Bay and continues to provide business advisory services to many area businesses and remains a strong advocate for business and industry. Active in the community, Mary is the Past- President of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She is involved with fundraising, awareness, as well as public speaking and education for many non-profit and charitable organizations.
